Sketch-a-day 032

In lieu of doing something valid for black and white, I did studies for my 12 monkeys dvd cover. Why is it that I work best at 3-4 in the morning? These were referenced for once, but the final won't be, because sadly... I do not have a monkey to photograph screaming angrily at me. I just couldn't bring myself to start on the final. It's been too long since I feel like I actually worked with ink still, and I want this sucker to turn out decent. Not to say I hate these. I am immensely happy with how these went.

Oh and the red, on the what I like to call "monkey made of nightmares and sadness", is acrylic ink. Bought my first bottle after a small adventure out to dick blick. I see a beautiful relationship forming between me and acrylic ink. Ink that can build up into brighter colors? Yes. Please. And boy, is it ever vibrant when put on straight.

Thanks all. I really wish I had some more acylic ink colors. The stuff is just so cool. I mean, ink is just such a comfortable medium, unforgiving, but easy. But now with this acrylic ink, you can mix and tone, and then build on top if you have to to achieve lighter tones, but with glazes they still work like regular ink.

Actually, this is fake paper. Since I tend to do all these sketches and stuff, and on a strapped budget, I fluff them up with digital textures.

So this is just on regular HP ultrawhite printer paper. I love the look of old papers and stuff, but this way you get that compete control, and printer paper takes ink and stuff way better than you'd ever think.

Although recently I've tried to drift away from it. You do feel a bit dishonest haha. A quick google search turned up this texture though, a few months back on a huge texture archive a designer had put together.

I've never come across old paper like this, all yellowed and stained, that was also suitable for inks, or even pencil sometime, without sacrificing of a lot line quality.
